For those of you who came to the GT demo last week and look forward to another great time, come join us on Thursday, May 22nd from ~4:00 - 7:30 pm for the Titus demo. Titus has been one of the premier high-end builders in the industry and are known as producing the finest interpretation of the fables four-bar suspension linkage. From the Racer X to the Moto Lite and the El Guapo - come see what Titus can do for you on your home-town trails.
A helmet, credit card and photo ID will be required. Minors will need an adult guardian present. See you there!
For those of you who made it to the Wimmers XC race at Sherwood Hills got to be part of a great day of racing - mud and slop for the Jrs and a great new single-track course for everyone else. For those that didn't hopefully next year!
The day started muddy and sloppy. The crew of volunteers (including several from the Joyride Bikes/EK Ekcessories team) spent many days and hours preparing brand-new single track and shoveling heaps of snow. Thanks to all who made this race possible! Glenn Ames, the Wimmer's crew - Mark and Steve; and many other volunteers came together to deliver a great event. Local racing is really where mountain biking is at and fun for people of all levels.
The Joyride/EK team had some great postings with Graysen Pitcher taking 2nd in the 10-12 Jrs (he's 9), John Burton winning the Jr mens, Josh Felt coming in 7th in men's sport and Bridgette Felt winning the beginner womens. Great job team!
Congratulations again to our JR racer crew. John Burton and Jedd Cox are both currently ranked #1 in the State in their respective divisions. Tax Day Road Race resulted in two first-place finishes followed by a #1st at the 5-mile pass mountain bike race and Jedd turning in a #2 at the Ogden Criterium this past weekend. We're always welcoming other JRs to come find out what racing is like. With Jim Rogers on board as advisor we're just going to keep getting better.
That's right, the GT Demo Fleet will be in Logan, UT at Green Canyon this Thursday, May 8th from about 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The demo truck will be at Joyride Bikes all day on Thursday and we'll be heading up to the trailhead around 4:00. Free to all, come ride some of the hottest new designs to hit the industry in some time. All models and sizes will be primed and ready for you to get out on the trail!
A big announcement and thank you to several individuals who are very able and willing to contribute their talents and time for the benefits of the Joyride Bikes/EK Ekcessories team!
Darrick Riggs will continue to serve as our fearless leader and will be assisted by Karen Wolfe as womens coordinator and Jim Rogers as Jr. developmental coordinator. Both of these athletes bring tremendous experience in training, coaching, and racing.
Karen is a very strong road racer with history on some of the strongest teams in the region as well as knowledge that only comes with thousands of miles on the saddle. Jim Rogers has ridden for many years in the Valley and returns to us from the Land known as Canada. If you've had the chance to ride with Jim you know he's one of the nicest guys you could ever have ride away from you. One of the most experienced mountain bike racers in the region as well and will have a wealth of knowledge to guide or fledgling Jrs. on their way! Welcome and thank you to Karen and Jim!
For those of you who are planning to join us as part of the Joyride Bikes/EK Ekcessories race team - the sizing kits are here. Come down and try on the bibs, jersies (short and long-sleeved), jackets, etc. to have an idea of what sizes you will want. Again, these kits will be in use for two seasons so plan ahead.
Membership will cost $30.00 annually. Our kits are provided to us by Hincapie Sportswear. We're excited for the kits because: 1. They look sweet! 2. Hincapie stuff is fantastic quality and we will use the kits for two seasons. The price of the kits is not being marked up much. This means the kits will be relatively affordable. I say relatively because Hincapie is at the top-end of the quality spectrum among cycling clothing Ð but we will price them well. Team members will also have gear from EK Ekcessories, discounts on key items at Joyride Bikes, free race bike checks etc.
Our team President is Darrick Riggs and he can be reached at darrickriggs@yahoo.com We look forward to riding with you!

Joyride! Bikes is excited to announce the formation of a new cycling team to the Northern Utah area. We will be the Joyride Bikes/EK Accessories team and will compete in local road, mountain and cyclocross racing as well as community rides and events. The team will have a developmental emphasis meaning anyone new to the sport is welcome to come and talk to us and be introduced to bicycle racing in a friendly, non-intimidating environment. We will concentrate on a Category 4/5 team, women's team and a strong junior emphasis. We expect to be able to field a Cat. 3 team in the future as well as defending our category titles in LotoJa as well as the Utah State Junior Road Race Champion. Look for our jerseys out on the roads and trails. We'll be the ones that say Joyride Bikes/EK Accessories with the smiles on our faces!
A bit of news on some of the product offerings at Joyride Bikes. We are still stoked to be working with Scott USA-currently making some of the hottest road and mountain bikes on the planet. Felt Racing should look good for '08 with Team Slipstream stepping up in a big way! Jonathan Vaughters' squad now has the likes of David Miller, Danny Pate, Mike Creed, Christian Vande Velde, Magnus Backstedt, Tom Danielson, Ryder Hesjedal, and local favorite Dave Zabriskie. GT is stepping up to reclaim their former status as one of the bicycle pioneers. Electra cruisers keep it fun and real. Bianchi is always one of my favorites with history and heritage - love celeste! Intense Cycles brings us the most advanced full-suspension design to hit the dirt. Serotta is custom stuff of dreams. And Pinarello is pure sex-appeal; I mean it-it is.
We have a lucky customer's cool new Merckyx SXM hanging up in the shop. Red and fast! We also have the first bike in the area featuring SRAM Red componentry. The 2008 Scott Addict R1 weights a feathery #14. Soon there will be another Serotta Ottrott tearing up the roads of Cache Valley.
2008 Sidi shoes have arrived and are patiently waiting for finish lines everywhere.
So as right now as the snow is falling, we're thinking of Spring. We can't help it as we are getting a lot of new 2008 product in the store. Some of the new Sidi's have arrived and always look good.
We have our shipment of Rocky Mountain Bikes here and being built up. In two weeks we should be looking at some Pinarellos as well. Should be a really good time. Look for our 2008 Pre-Season sale coming up. The best time of the year to save on the new bicycle you will want later. Pinarello, Serotta, Scott, Felt, Bianchi, Rocky Mountain & Intense Bikes will be ready to order at near-end-of-season prices now.
The annual Joyride Bikes maintenance course will be starting soon. This class will be offered on a first-come basis. The cost will be $175.00 and will include five nights of bicycle study (approximately 12 hours). We will take a bike of your choice and essentially have it stripped down to a bare frame. We will instruct and then assist you in performing a full overhaul on your ride. Bearings will be repacked, wheels will be trued and wheel theory discussed, frames and components will be inspected, cables replaced and adjusted Ð all by you with the assistance of mechanics with over 20 years of experience.
A syllabus will be provided and there will be plenty of time for questions and individual direction. I've done this before as an instructor for the University cycling course for several years and it's always a good time. Tools will be available for purchase at a discount if desired. See you there!
